So after my last blog post I went ahead and contacted some of my old friends. Caught up with one of them, exchanged a couple messages with another, and have had total radio silence from a few more. One of the people I really want to reconnect with has deleted herself from the internet, apparently, and so I have absolutely no way of contacting her. Sad panda. But I'm happy to be speaking with some people from my past.
The job front isn't going any better. If I don't stumble across something soon, or get a call back, I have some insider information that Starbucks is desperate for male employees. Sigh.
For Music Monday I've got "Everybody Come Down" by the Delgados. They were one of my favourite bands in high school, and I've just started listening to them again. I swear this must be a phase of some sort.
Monday has caught me off-guard, it was completely unexpected. As was last Monday (hence the lack of MM post), likely because of the whole holiday-on-a-Sunday thing. That, and I moved for the second time in as many weeks.
This time I went from Victoria to Kelowna, which, despite the significantly shorter distance and travel time, was much harder than Singapore to Victoria. I was only five months in Singapore, and the overseas travel really limited what I could take. No such luck with Kelowna, I'm not even sure when I'm moving back to Victoria. So a lot of stuff had to make the move.
As such, I'm pretty much choosing a song at random to feature today. Well, not completely at random, there was some method to its choosing. It's a track by the Delgados, a now defunct Scottish band that was one of my faves back in high school. I still like them now, but I don't listen to their music often. The song? "Coming in From the Cold," which I'll be doing a lot of now that I'm in the Okanagan. As usual, there's a video below. Enjoy, and happy New Year! Technically it's still Monday back home in British Columbia, so this post is right on time.
Being in Singapore feels like a vacation. I feel like I live in a hotel sometimes, and every day I'm out exploring and every night I'm up to something in town. This ain't real life.
So it would make sense that I need a bit of a summer soundtrack, right? Besides all the mash-ups, remixes, and generally "dance hall" music that I've been listening to lately, there are a few true summer songs. One of these is an old favourite, Mr Blue Sky.
You may remember it as an ELO tune, but it has been covered multiple times since the original release (some more likeable than others). My particular favourite, above even the ELO version, is sung by the Delgados. You can take a listen to it here.
