Music Monday: Daft Punk - C.L.U.

So last Friday Tronday I saw Tron:Legacy. I was tempted not leave the theatre and watch it again (edit: I went back and watched it two more times in the same theatre). I'm in love. I'm also in love with the soundtrack, which was composed by Daft Punk and features the London Symphony Orchestra (I think. It's a symphony orchestra in London, that's fersuure).

While not my favourite song on the soundtrack, C.L.U. is probably the most exemplary of the beautiful style that Daft Punk crafted when given the chance to work with more "traditional" instruments. Who knew synth and strings went so well together? Or feedback and timpani? Love love love.

  1. The soundtrack was great. The only complaint I can have is that probably it was often too little electronic, just not 'Daft Punk' enough.

The tune Overture is at its orchestral best. But the perfect mesh between string and synth is in the tune Recognizer. That one is pure genius.

  2. i know what you mean, about the "not Daft Punk enough," but it fits with the film. heck, the film was cut to the music, not the other way around. really, you have to think of it as a soundtrack composed by Daft Punk, and not an album by Daft Punk.

yah, Overture is one of my faves. C.L.U. takes top honour, though. i also have a soft spot for Solar Sailer.

How can I know you're listening unless you respond?
