As I said last week, I'm still on a summer music streak. I'll spare you the mash-ups and remixes this week and instead share an original song with some quality sampling.
Cosmic Jive is a a song that takes its name from a lyric in David Bowie's Starman, which is also the source of the vocal sampling for this track. I go through a Bowie phase every now and again, usually prompted by my iPod shuffling to Changes. This particular song, by Australian group Cosmo Black, is a very laid back electronic tune. Relaxing but still upbeat, calming but still demanding to be played loud and proud.
According to my Last.fm profile stats, I've listened to this particular song eleven times in the last week. Not exactly a huge figure, but still quite substantial, considering I haven't scrobbled my iPod stats yet. I should probably get on that.

LOW is a fave album, from a long time ago now. Great album. Side 2, especially. Instrumental. Moody. Pre-Kraftwerk. Part-epic. Part-dunno. Music really is about feeling anyway.
ReplyDeleteSide 1, is standard Bowie rock. Wasn't all that interested in Side 1 at the time.
I played Side 2 over and over. From High School, I was into experimental music, introduced by an artist pal to the avant garde likes of Yoko Ono, and folks who composed stuff on synths, garbage-can lids, and prepared piano. So, Yup, I LIKED Side 2. Certain kinds of music build something like a room around you: perfect for writing in. For me. Perfect for fantasma'sci-fi post-apocalyptos I wrote when there was still threat of thermonuclear idiocy in the world. Not not our safe times, at all. I am being funny, heh.

Am fond of LastFM. When I had cable [sighs], a fave show was Taratata (French music variety show): performances by artists from all over; established acts, and newcomers. Great range of stuff. Then I'd go to LastFM, watch and listen. Will go buffer Cosmic Jive, when home.
